Myles N. Lanier is a tenor, composer/arranger, and music educator from Northern Virginia. He is passionate about singing, composing, education policy, student advocacy, and developing singers, musicians and composers to serve and speak for their communities through song. Lanier is currently a Choral Music Education student at Virginia State University (VSU), where he has served as Tenor Section Leader, choral librarian, logistics lead, and president for the Virginia State University Concert Choir. He also serves as the VSU National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) Chapter Secretary, Collegiate Virginia Music Educators Association (Co-VMEA) Southern Region Representative, and inaugural VSU American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Chapter President. He has worked as a Camp Counselor, Section Leader, and Artistic Teaching Assistant with the South Loudoun Youth Chorale in Aldie, Virginia. Lanier is also a substitute teacher for Manassas Park City Schools and has worked with several middle and high school choirs in central and northern Virginia.

 

​​Lanier is an accomplished vocalist and emerging composer, eager to share his musical abilities with the world. As a vocalist, he has competed and placed at the Virginia and Mid-Atlantic Regional levels of the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) audition and competition in 2025, specializing in African-American spirituals and classical music. He is also a 2026 national semifinalist for the Hall Johnson category for NATS. Lanier has experience as a worship leader, background singer, and guest soloist for churches in central and northern Virginia. As a composer, Lanier has completed and is creating several works for mixed, treble, and basso choirs, as well as art songs, solo and trio arrangements, and an instrumental duet. His growing catalog encompasses original pieces with original, sacred, and public domain texts and arrangements of contemporary, gospel, and classical pieces, as well as American spirituals.​

 

Lanier is a member of the National Association for Music Educators and the American Choral Directors Association.​​​

 

Outside of education and his musical endeavors, Myles is an award-winning public speaker and a passionate education policy advocate. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, playing and watching basketball, and spending time with his family.
